The end of summer signals the ushering in of Fall, and likewise the ending of winter brings on Spring, so you may say ‘what’s so big about that?’  “Duhhhh Ally, change of seasons.,,hello, been going on forevvvvahhhh!”  Well, not so quick~~that means I’m totally ready for a change of venue for eating!  In general, these are seasons where you can make your meals more interesting, fun and adventurous because you just might have better weather and even more options for freshness with your ingredients!  And, with just a few simple ideas and changes you’ll be able to escape your usual eating hole/place and revel in the glorious artwork of Mother Nature and the great outdoors~~

1.  Head outside on inviting weather days for morning coffee, lunch or dinner~~

2.  Pull out mismatched placemats, dish towels, and napkins and make your table a pattern of colors, textures and shapes~~

3.  Use interesting serving dishes…your cast iron skillets, Mason or Ball jars, decorative serving dishes that might be hanging on a wall (you can put a sheet of parchment paper on it if you’re concerned about it!)~~

4.  Plates and silverware don’t have to match~~

5.  Colors don’t have to match~~

6.  Snip greenery, fresh herbs and flowers and put in a coffee cup~~

7.  Brown paper grocery bags make a gorgeous table cover when you open them up and overlap them…pull out Sharpies and write messages, draw pictures, even if stick figures~~

8.  Use jelly jars for drinks…wine, beer, cocktails, water, juice, milk…whatever~~

9.  Make your food as colorful as your table…it’s not only more healthy, but it offers crisp visual appeal and a sassy look~~

10. Make your ‘spread’ a SPREAD…fruit, cheese, a cutting board, raw veggies like cherry tomatoes in small bowls, tasting dishes for small servings…this is more than just eating, it’s a Boho experience and something that takes time to savor the moments, the feelings, sharing conversation, laughter, smiles with everyone there, and, yes, of course…the food~~

Come hang out with me and feel the magic of boho dining~~

  1. P.S. You rock those red shades!!! :) xo

  2. Ally, I feel as though I just went on a picnic with you… a wonderful, colorful, flavorful, relaxed outing… aahhhhh. What a BEAUTIFUL post… fetching to the eye as well as the palate, and soul. This past weekend we ate on the card table in front of our living room windows (instead of the dining room) — small bowl of cherry tomatoes included (as you mentioned), cuz, well… summer perfection, what else can I say? (The rest of them ended up in a ‘Western Omelette’ for breakfast on the deck this morning.) We also trundled out to our lawn chairs for various meals and ate with our plates on our laps, watched sunsets, drank wine and/or cocktails, ENJOYED! Next time though, I’m gonna gussy up things with some of your MANY lovely suggestions. Life’s too short not to add a lil’ color and a lot of Boho! xo

    • Oh, we love love coffee table and TV watching for dinner…especially when ‘Dancing with the Stars’ is on! I love the card table and have to incorporate that idea in my cache of fave places, too! Hey, we’ve even eaten in our bathroom…well, it is a good size, soooooooo…life is short, get crazy, huh?? Those weetle cherry ‘maters are the best, and in a Western Omelette, oh yeah!! And, on the deck…now that’s what I’m talkin’ about! Then your lawn chairs…PERFECT!! We have those plastic Adirondack chairs that I could pull into the yard…thanks for the inspiration, girrlee!! Yes, life is made for COLOR!! And, we’re doing it!! Love my Boho sister! xox
