Spicy Greek French Fries

Greek Fries

I can eat my weight in these spicy Greek fries!  They’ve got kick and flavor not normally tasted in a french fry!  Don’t be stingy with the sea salt. It intensifies those flavors!  The Greek Mediterranean seasoning opens up new tastebud sites when you bite into that fry and make you think you’re eating a meal and not a fry!

Quick, easy and much healthier than ‘real’ french fries that are fried, these can take away a bit of the guilt! Of course, I’ve always believed my beloved taters sometimes get a bad rap as fattening or too high carb. Moderation is the key!

These fries would be the perfect side for this French Madame Turkey Sandwich!

Greek French Fries Recipe

Now a Greek french fries recipe is pretty darn simple. All you need are potatoes. Yes, real potatoes. I like to scrub my potatoes really clean because I’m not going to peel them. Yes, I love eating the skins of potatoes even if it’s a baked potato. So, that means it’s imperative that you clean those potatoes well. What’s the best potato for oven fries?

Home French Fries

I happen to think the best potato for home french fries is the Russet potato. These are also known as Idaho potatoes. They’re considered high starch potatoes that are more dense and they have less moisture in them. I wouldn’t recommend any potato with a red skin, new potatoes or the little fingerling potatoes. Yes, they’re all awesome, but you’re not likely to get the crisp from the heat of the oven in cooking these varieties of potatoes.

Air-Fryer French Fries

I know that the air-fryer counter top appliance is the cat’s meow now. However, I just don’t want one more kitchen appliance that clutters my kitchen counter tops. But, I do want the air-fryer french fries. So, how do I achieve that? Well, I use my oven! And, while I don’t have all the technological bells and whistles of the air-fryer, I do get pretty darn great oven fries with a super hot oven at 425. So my oven kind of becomes my make shift air-fryer.

Now if you want your air-fryer and not on your counter top, then you must check out the Star Wars technology Advantium from GE Appliances. Yes, it’s got a built-in air-fryer plus so many other really time-saving and high tech settings! I’ve certainly used this technology as GE’s Great American Grandma and it’s more than the cat’s meow, it’s the roar of the lion’s meow!

Oven Fries

Oven fries are super delicious and so easy. We love them in our house, and I can assure you that if I pull them out of the oven to cool everyone’s walking by picking up these french fries and eating them. It’s like fried bacon. These fries just disappear sometimes before I can get them to the table. And, for that reason I make a LOT of these home french fries! And, why not serve with something like this lemon thyme salmon

Ingredients

  • Preheat oven to 425
  • 5-6  medium sized Yukon gold potatoes,  washed and sliced into fries
  • Olive Oil Cooking Spray
  • 1 tsp. sea salt
  • 1 tsp. pepper
  • 1 tsp. Greek Mediterranean Seasoning Mixture
  • 1/2 tsp. red chili flakes
  • 3 Tbl. fresh parsley, finely minced

Instructions

Put the sliced potatoes on a parchment-paper lined cookie sheet.  Coat well with the spray.  Sprinkle the salt, pepper, Greek seasoning, and red chili flakes on the potatoes then toss with your hands.

Roast in a preheated 425 oven for about 18-22 minutes or until golden brown.  For added crispy browning, turn on the broiler about 30-60 seconds before pulling out.

Remove and sprinkle with dried parsley. Make sure you have lots of ketchup!  Eat!
